Emmy places student voice at the heart of everything she does as an educator. Emmy believes in the power of youth agency and independence, and she wants to give every student a chance to have their voice heard. Emmy believes that music is a way to bring communities together, and to that end music can create a more welcoming and tolerant world.
Emmy has experience teaching high school choir and theater studies, and middle school choir. She has guest taught at the Independent Day School and Strong Middle School, teaching singing-based workshops. In the summer, Emmy works as a songwriting teacher at the YPI Summer Arts Camp.
Emmy also runs her own private lesson studio, local to the UConn area. She teaches piano, singing, and songwriting lessons to students ages six and older. Every year her studio puts on a recital in the spring, both to give students a long-term goal and a chance to share what they have learned with family and friends. She prioritizes student wellbeing in her teaching, and tailors every lesson to what each individual needs and wants to gain from their lessons. Emmy views private lesson teaching as a collaborative process, where the teacher acts as a facilitator in the student’s process of learning.
Emmy is on track to be certified for K-12 music in the state of Connecticut, and she is currently pursuing a full-time music teaching position for the 2024-25 school year.
